Khandi – The Village of Beautiful Waterfalls

Fantastic, Tremendous, Long Live!  Yes, today we are going to learn about a place whose beauty is a bit difficult to put into words. Located in Maval Taluka, about 80 kilometers from Pune, Khandi is known for its excellent waterfalls and enchanting views. We can easily reach Khandi via Kanhe Phata on the Mumbai Pune Old Highway.

During the monsoon season, Khandi is a bit less famous compared to other scenic spots in the Sahyadri Hills, but this is what makes it even better due to less crowding. On one side of the road, there are beautiful mountains, and on the other side, the backwaters of the Thokarwadi Dam.

One morning during the monsoon season, we set off for Khandi with our friends. The beauty of the Sahyadri hills is at its peak during the rainy season. The road to Khandi is very flat and good, making it an excellent spot for bike riding and cycling. The numerous waterfalls cascading down the mountains were a sight to behold.

On both sides of the road, the lush green rice fields looked beautiful. In some fields, farmers were seen transplanting rice.

Near the road in Khandi, there was a very lovely temple. The architectural style of this temple was different from typical temples. The weather was excellent, and the light raindrops combined with the cool breeze made the atmosphere delightful.

The main waterfalls in Khandi are Bendewadi Waterfall, Jagtap Waterfall, and Lalwadi Waterfall. We visited all these waterfalls.

In Khandi, arrangements for food are available by local villagers. Near Bendewadi Waterfall, we stopped at a house for a meal. Before having our meal, we went to see the Bendewadi Waterfall. There were beautiful rice fields on both sides of the trail from the village to the waterfall.

After about 10 minutes, we reached the Bendewadi Waterfall. It was a very beautiful waterfall, with the sound of water falling being very loud. We sat in the stream of water here and enjoyed ourselves for a while. Due to the height of the Bendewadi Waterfall and the large volume of water, the waves were very strong.

Now, hunger started to set in. We were also feeling cold due to getting wet in the rain. We quickly changed our clothes upon returning to the village. Our meal was being prepared. The food was cooking on the chulha. In the same room where the chulha was burning, there was seating arrangement for eating. The room was warm from the heat of the chulha.

We enjoyed sitting there. The meal plate consisted of Maharashtra’s famous dishes like Zunka, Bhakri, Indrayani Rice, chutney, and pickles. It was delightful to eat the hot meal. It was truly delicious. After having our fill, we started back towards our home from Khandi.

I found Khandi to be very beautiful. The enchanting views, mountains, waterfalls, beautiful rice fields, backwater, and winding scenic roads here are excellent. Everyone should try biking and cycling in Khandi.

My recommendation is that you must visit Khandi during the monsoon season, and whenever you go to Khandi, have your meal in the village itself. Believe me, it will be an unforgettable experience for you.
