Malhargad Fort, located near Saswad in Pune, is a great place to visit. Due to its proximity to the center of Pune, being just 30 kilometers away, it can be easily explored in a day. Built by the Marathas between 1757 and 1760, Malhargad Fort is the last fort constructed by the Maratha Empire.

Besides its historical significance, this fort is also visually appealing due to its natural surroundings. From this fort, one could oversee the Dive Ghat in the Sahyadri Hills. Due to its proximity to Sonori Village, Malhargad Fort is also known as Sonori Fort.

Malhargad Fort has two gates. The main gate is known as Maha Darwaza, while the second gate is famous as Chor Darwaza. Situated on a triangular-shaped hill, this fort houses two temples.

One temple is dedicated to Lord Malhar, i.e., Lord Shiva, and the other temple is dedicated to Lord Khandoba.

A small pond has been constructed for water storage within the premises of Malhargad Fort. One unique feature of this fort is that within the triangular-shaped fort, there is another fort built in a square shape, providing it with double security. The view of Saswad, located in the valley, is mesmerizing from Malhargad Fort.

A statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji has also been installed in Malhargad Fort.
