In the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, Gulmarg is an incredibly beautiful place. It is located approximately 51 kilometers from Srinagar. We traveled to Gulmarg from Srinagar by car. The entire journey was filled with stunning views. Our driver, Bilal Bhat, was very nice and hospitable. Along the way, we were enriched with good knowledge about Kashmir.
Gulmarg is also known as the “Meadows of Flowers.” Here, mountaineering, golf, and snow skiing are also taught. From October to February, there is heavy snowfall. Gulmarg boasts the world’s highest golf course. During winters, enthusiasts from all over the world come here for snow skiing.
On the way from Srinagar to Gulmarg, we stopped at an incredibly beautiful place. The vast meadows with tall green grass along the road were very pleasing to the eyes. These grassy meadows were adorned with beautiful flowers. Surrounded by snow-covered mountains, the valley looked exceptionally beautiful. The weather was cool and refreshing, providing a soothing sensation. We stopped here for a while to enjoy the serene atmosphere.
Captivated by the natural surroundings, we took many photos with our mobile phones. After spending some time, we continued our journey towards Gulmarg. Along the way, we also saw convoys of the Indian Army vehicles. Their presence in such remote areas was an excellent example of the patriotic spirit and dedication to the country shown by the Indian Army.
After a journey of about 3 hours, we reached Gulmarg. The major attraction of Gulmarg is its cable car, known as the Gondola Ride. This Gondola Ride in Gulmarg is the second highest cable car in the world and the first in Asia, with an altitude of approximately 13,450 feet. It is divided into two sections. Section-1 covers a distance of 2.3 kilometers with an altitude of 400 meters, while Section-2 covers a distance of 2.5 kilometers with an altitude of 880 meters.
We bought tickets and boarded the Gondola Ride for Section-1. As we sat in the cable car, we gradually ascended towards the high mountains. It was an exhilarating experience, although there was a bit of fear looking down into the valley. After some time, we reached the top of the mountain. Here, there were vast meadows filled with beautiful flowers. Horses were grazing in the grassy fields. The view was breathtaking, and we sat there, admiring the beauty of Kashmir to our heart’s content.
Where the Gondola Ride of Section-1 ends, tickets for the Gondola Ride of Section-2 are available. We also purchased tickets for Section-2 and boarded the cable car. The Gondola Ride of Section-2 was higher and more thrilling compared to Section-1. The mountains here were very rugged, and the valleys were very deep. The grass grew on rocky ground below, and grazing sheep looked lovely. The cold was also becoming quite intense.
We were capturing photos and videos with our mobile phones. After an enjoyable and thrilling Gondola Ride, we found ourselves on the peaks of Gulmarg. Snow-covered mountains were visible all around. We had come here to witness these very sights of Kashmir.
After enjoying snow skiing and capturing lots of photos and videos, we moved to the other side of the mountain where we could see the Line of Control. The mountains in front of us looked very beautiful, and the cool breeze was soothing our hearts. The sunlight was shining brightly. We sat comfortably on the rocks, trying to absorb all these beautiful moments of Kashmir. After spending quite some time enjoying the scenery, we returned to the vicinity of the Gondola Ride.
As we embarked on the return journey, we were once again treated to the enchanting views of Gulmarg from the Gondola Ride. It was indeed a very thrilling experience. Cherishing these unforgettable moments in our memories, we headed back from Gulmarg to Srinagar.
