Milkybar Waterfall Trek

The Milkybar Waterfall trek is a monsoon trek. Milkybar Waterfall is located in the Plus Valley of Tamhini Ghat in Mulshi Taluka, approximately 70 kilometers from Pune in the Sahyadri Mountains. The Plus Valley got its name due to its plus-like shape. Although there are many beautiful waterfalls in the Western Ghats, Milkybar Waterfall is one of the most stunning.

Due to the height from which the water falls, the waterfall appears white like milk. This is why it is named Milkybar Waterfall. Previously, this waterfall was not very well-known, but now many people come here for trekking. The water from Milkybar Waterfall flows further to become the Devkund Waterfall.

For people living around Pune and Mumbai, the Milkybar Waterfall is a one-day trek. The trek covers a distance of approximately 4-5 kilometers, taking around 4-5 hours to complete the round trip.

From the starting point of the trek, the path begins to descend into the Plus Valley. As you move forward through lush green trees and bushes, the path becomes dense with forests and more adventurous.

During the monsoon season, heavy rain and fog can reduce visibility levels. A bit further, the path becomes rocky and narrow along the edge of a large mountain. This part of the Milkybar Waterfall trek is somewhat risky because heavy rains can cause rocks to fall. Therefore, one should proceed with caution here.

To help identify the path of the trek, trekkers and groups have tied ribbon markers at various points. These markers reduce the chances of getting lost, especially during the monsoon season. Following these markers, we reached the bottom of the Plus Valley. In front of us was a river with a very strong current, which was coming from the Milkybar Waterfall.

We had to cross the river to proceed further. Crossing rivers in the Western Ghats during the monsoon season in the Sahyadri Mountains is a very risky task. The water level can rise at any time due to heavy rain. We began to cross the river carefully. The scenery here was very beautiful. The water hitting the rocks created a white foam-like effect.

After stopping by the riverbank for a while, we began to admire the spectacular views around us. Crossing the river and walking a bit further, we saw a large and beautiful waterfall.

After taking a short break here, we continued towards the Milkybar Waterfall. The path ahead was uphill. The sound of water falling from the waterfall was becoming very loud. The continuous trekking was also making us tired. In just a short while, we could see the Milkybar Waterfall.

What a truly amazing sight it was! The milky white water of the Milkybar Waterfall was cascading down in front of us. The name “Milkybar Waterfall” was truly fitting. Just seeing this beautiful waterfall took away all our fatigue.

The waterfall had formed a beautiful natural pool at its base. Everyone was bathing in the pool of the Milkybar Waterfall. However, some parts of the natural pool under the waterfall are very deep, so one should avoid going too far inside.

We also enjoyed ourselves under the Milkybar Waterfall for a long time. The view here was magnificent. I really liked the Milkybar Waterfall, especially swimming in the natural pool under the waterfall.

After spending a good amount of time, we started our return journey. The Milkybar Waterfall trek is extremely enjoyable. My suggestion is to always go in a group with experienced monsoon trekkers.

The Milkybar Waterfall trek should be started early in the morning so that you can return early. The Plus Valley experiences a lot of rain, so one should trek carefully.

During the monsoon season, the water level in the river can rise at any time due to excessive rainfall, so you should be very cautious when entering the river.
