Wai, located in Satara district of Maharashtra, is a historic and cultural town nestled along the banks of the Krishna River. Often referred to as the “Dakshin Kashi,” Wai is enriched with natural gifts such as lush green hills, lakes, dams, river ghats, and a serene environment, making it an excellent destination for tourists. Wai enjoys pleasant weather throughout the year, making it an ideal tourist spot. The monsoon season enhances Wai’s beauty, offering splendid views. The surrounding hills of Wai also provide ample opportunities for trekking and hiking, attracting adventure enthusiasts. Additionally, camping, kayaking, and other activities are also popular here.

I have had the opportunity to visit Wai several times and am sharing my wonderful experiences of trip to Wai with you to provide insights into the tourist attractions of Wai.

Dhom Dam
Dhom Dam is a major dam in Maharashtra, situated on the Krishna River near Wai. It is renowned for its natural beauty. During my trip to Mahabaleshwar, I saw this dam from Kate’s Point. The view of Dhom Lake from there was breathtaking. During our visit to Wai, we went to see Dhom Dam. As the monsoon had just begun, the dam was not completely filled with water yet.

Near Dhom Dam, we could see Kate’s Point of Mahabaleshwar, also known as Needle Point or Elephant Head Point. The combination of Dhom Dam, Dhom Lake, and Wai makes it a major tourist destination where visitors can enjoy natural beauty as well as indulge in water sports and picnics.

Beautiful Resorts in Wai
There are several excellent resorts around Dhom Lake, formed by Dhom Dam near Wai, where you can enjoy the proximity to nature amidst beautiful views. During the monsoon, the unique blend of lush green hills, lakes, rice fields, and the dam makes this area of Wai exceptionally beautiful. Although there are many resorts here, I particularly liked two resorts very much.

The Redstone Resort is the best resort in Wai. The cottages here are very comfortable. On one side of the cottages, there is a beautiful lawn, and on the other side, there is a jungle.

The lawn is covered with lush green grass where you can play cricket and volleyball. There is a very large swimming pool adjacent to the lawn. This resort also offers indoor games such as table tennis, chess, and various card games for entertainment.

The Redstone Resort is adorned with beautiful trees and flowers. Additionally, there are many selfie points created here.

We particularly liked the treehouse made amidst the trees, from where the view of the valley below and the nearby hills was very pleasing. If the weather is good, one can also go for a hike to Dhom Lake from here.

The resort becomes even more beautiful at night with twinkling lights. We also enjoyed the food here, which was very delicious.

Magnus Caverns Resort is also a very beautiful resort. Along with cottages, there is also provision to stay in Jodhpuri tents here.

The resort overlooks Dhom Lake, which looks very nice from here. There is an open field between the lake and Magnus Caverns Resort where you can play cricket, go cycling, horse riding, bullock cart riding and even camel riding.

The resort also provide free of cost cycle to its guests for exploring its nearby locations. We enjoyed cycling here a lot.

Boating facilities are also available in the lake. As the monsoon rains increase, this field merges into the lake. Magnus Caverns Resort offers amenities such as a swimming pool, archery, and other indoor games.

In the evening, there are also musical programs here, which enhance the atmosphere. We also liked the food here, which was delicious.

Dholya Ganpati Temple
The Ganpati Temple also known as Dholya Ganpati temple in Wai is one of Maharashtra’s most ancient and renowned temples. It is situated along the banks of the Krishna River and holds great religious significance. Built during the Peshwa era, it is an excellent example of Maratha architecture. The temple houses a magnificent idol of Lord Ganesha, which is extremely captivating.

Special prayers and rituals are performed here during Ganesh Chaturthi and other major Hindu festivals, attracting a large number of devotees. The Ganpati Temple in Wai is not only significant from a religious perspective but also holds immense importance as a cultural and architectural heritage site. It stands as a vibrant example of Indian religious traditions and Marathi culture.

Nana Phadnavis Wada in Wai, Maharashtra, is a prominent site of historical heritage. Nana Phadnavis, also known as Balaji Janardan Bhanu, was a significant statesman and advisor during the Peshwa era. Located in Wai, his Wada provides a glimpse into his life and times.

Built in the 18th century, this Wada is an excellent example of Maratha architecture. The structure features several courtyards, grand gates, and intricate woodwork.

The complex carvings on its doors and windows, along with the intricate stone carvings, enhance its grandeur. Inside the Wada, various rooms offer insights into Nana Phadnavis’s life and his administrative work. The murals and carvings on the walls depict Maratha history and culture.

The ambiance of the Wada takes you on a journey through the past, where you can experience the grandeur and culture of the Maratha Empire.

➥ Krishna River Ghat
Menavali Ghat, located near Wada Wadi in the vicinity of Nana Phadnavis, is situated on the banks of the Krishna River. This Ghat is renowned for its beauty and cultural significance.

Constructed in the 18th century by Nana Phadnavis, Menavali Ghat is famous for its majestic and beautiful Shiva temple located on the riverbank. The architecture of this temple is unique and showcases the local craftsmanship. Steps from the Ghat lead down to the river where devotees can take a holy dip.

The ambiance of the Ghat is peaceful and serene, making it an ideal place for meditation and worship. Menavali Ghat also holds attraction for the film industry, having been a shooting location for several Bollywood films, including Shahrukh Khan’s “Swadesh” and Ajay Devgan’s “Gangaajal,” thereby becoming a prominent tourist destination. It is recommended to visit this Krishna river ghat during your trip to Wai.

Located in Satara, Wai has each of its places unique, offering an unforgettable experience for history, culture, and nature enthusiasts. Near Wai are two famous tourist attractions, Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani. I suggest you visit Wai during the monsoon season or thereafter; this will make your experience truly magnificent.
