After reading initial information about this lake, I started to feel like camping on the shores of Pawna Lake. The Diwali holidays made it easy for us to plan a camping trip to Pawna Lake. With our work colleagues and family members, we set off from Pune towards Pawna Lake Camping site in our car. We had all the necessary camping equipment with us, such as tents, tools like torches, large water cans, fire-starting tools, food supplies, etc. After a journey of about 2 hours by car, we reached near Pawna Lake.

There are many camping spots along the shores of Pawna Lake where you can book and go. Here, facilities for food, drinks, and accommodation in the camp are available. However, we decided not to use these facilities and instead brought our own tents and food and drinks.

The real fun of adventure is when you set up your own tent and cook your own food over a fire in a natural environment. In the process of finding a good spot for camping, we found a place on a hill near the lake that was very suitable for setting up camp. From this spot, we could see the beautiful view of Pawna Lake in front of us.

We started camping by setting up our tent. The sunset had already occurred, and a cool breeze had started blowing. We had arranged dry wood from a nearby village and sat around the fire. We also had a small tandoor with us, which we had brought along. We started cooking paneer, vegetables like potatoes, onions, bell peppers, cauliflower, tomatoes, chilies, and papads in the tandoor.

Along with that, Maggie noodles were also cooking on the fire. I enjoyed the experience of cooking for the first time amidst the lap of nature in the open mountains. The good weather, the company of music, and the delicious food cooking over the fire made the atmosphere fantastic.

As the night progressed, we began to feel sleepy after enjoying ourselves to the fullest. We went into our tents to sleep. Due to exhaustion, sleep came quickly. Spending the night in the tent amidst nature was a delightful experience. As soon as the morning light appeared, we woke up. While lying in the tent, we could see the serene view of Pawna Lake. The panoramic view of the surrounding mountains was also captivating.

Now, we started packing up our camp to head back. We packed all our belongings back into our car and took a short stroll around Pawna Lake. The water of the lake looked very clear. It was delightful to see flocks of ducks swimming in the lake. There were also good arrangements for water sports like boating and jet skiing in Pawna Lake.

On our way back from Pawna Lake Camping, we decided to visit the Bedse Caves. It’s located on the route back and situated atop a high hill. This is a Buddhist monument built in the 1st century BC. The path leading to the caves from the stairs has been well maintained.

There are two caves in the Bedse Caves complex, the main one being the ‘Chaitya’ which houses a stupa, and the other one is the ‘Vihara’, a prayer hall. I enjoyed exploring these caves and learning about them from the local guide.

After spending some time there and taking photographs, we descended back. After quenching our thirst at a nearby hotel for a while, we embarked on our journey back to Pune after experiencing the wonderful camping at Pawna Lake and exploring the historic Bedse Caves.
