Trimbakeshwar Jyotirling Temple

The Trimbakeshwar Jyotirling Temple, located in the Trimbak village of Nashik district in Maharashtra, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Surrounded by natural beauty, this place is where the Godavari River emerges from the Brahmagiri mountain. Built with black stones, this ancient temple is one of the centers of Hindu faith.

The architecture of the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirling Temple is exceptional, with beautiful carvings adorning its walls. What sets the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga apart is that here, Lord Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma are all present together. The main spot of the temple where the Jyotirlinga is situated is in a deep place, for which a large mirror has been installed for viewing.

People from all over the country and abroad come to the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirling Temple to perform special worship and rituals dedicated to Lord Shiva, including Kalasarpa Puja, Mahamrityunjaya Puja, and Rudrabhishek. The surrounding area of the temple is naturally beautiful. According to mythological beliefs, it is said that Sage Gautama performed severe penance here, entreating Lord Shiva to bring the Ganga River down to earth.

Pleased with Sage Gautama’s penance, Lord Shiva manifested himself as Trimbakeshwar and brought the Ganga down to the Brahmagiri mountain, which we now know as the Godavari River. Sage Gautama requested Lord Shiva to reside in Trimbak, which Lord Shiva accepted, thus establishing himself as Trimbakeshwar here. In this way, we can say that just as Bhagirath is credited with bringing the Ganga to earth, similarly, Sage Gautama is credited with bringing the Ganga in the form of the Godavari River to earth.

Near the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirling Temple is the Kushavart Kund, where people take a dip before visiting the temple. This kund collects water from the Godavari River. A colorful chariot is placed at the main entrance of the temple. During the month of Kartik, the grand procession of Trimbak Raja sets off in this chariot. I found this chariot very beautiful. We also took some photos here.
